Friendships are like ionic bondings. They are very difficult to break once they are formed. No matter what happen to them, they cannot forget each other once they meet. No matter what kind of hardship(heat) they face, they can still endure it(high melting point).
Couples are like covalent bondings. At first, A and B form a covalent bond. But then C, which is more electronegative than B, form covalent bond with A in the place of B. In another word, when A meet B or vice versa, they start to date each other. But one day C appear in their life, and C is much more attractive(maybe in the sense of appearance, for example). Then, either A will dumb B or vice versa, so that they can date a more handsome guy or pretty lady.
Families are like Van der Waals forces. For example, my brother has a girlfriend. They will be the water molecule in this case. Next, the family members including me, are other water molecules. Then, his girlfriend will be able to become one of our family members as well, like the formation of Van der Waals forces between the water molecules.
For better understanding, at least, you need to have the general knowledge about different types chemical bondings and their characteristics.
I hope you all will find it interesting!! *^^*
